Post laminectomy syndrome, also known as failed back surgery, can result from spinal surgery. Spinal surgery is best for limb pain, also known as radiculopathy. However, spinal surgery does not always take away the pain. Spine surgery for herniated discs and spinal stenosis is effective for patients who do not improve with physical therapy and injections.
CAUSES
Often, people get spine surgery to ease leg pain, to ease pain experienced with walking or to stabilize the spine following natural deterioration. After this type of surgery, scar tissue can form, compressing nerves and causing pain and post laminectomy syndrome.
Symptoms
- Arm and neck pain following spinal surgery.
- Back and leg pain following spinal surgery.
- Numbness and tingling in the legs.
