Occipital Nerve Block

Occipital nerve blocks are used to diagnose and treat occipital neuralgia. This injection is performed in the office. While the patient is in a seated position, a mixture of a local anesthetic and a steroid is injected in the area surrounding the occipital nerves in the back of the head.
Recovery
The anti-inflammatory action of the steroid will help alleviate the pain generally in a 3-5 day period.
