Our facet joints stabilize the spine and allow twisting. Like any other joint in the body, the facet joints can become arthritic due to aging or due to repetitive trauma that causes back (lumbar or thoracic) and neck (cervical) pain.
Spondylosis and facet syndrome can be a result of aging or repetitive spinal stress. It can also accompany conditions and injuries, like arthritis, trauma and whiplash.
