The treatment is used to reduce abdominal pain that can be caused by pancreatitis or cancer. The goal is to block the transmission of pain by using a long-acting numbing medication and administering it in a structure that has numerous nerves. This procedure is performed under X-ray guidance to ensure safety and a small amount of contrast is used to reduce the risk of major complications.
